CiRcUS ScHoOL!

At one time or another, particularly when your young, most people have dreamed of running away and joining the circus. While for many of us that is just a dream and nothing ever comes from it, this week, we actually got to taste a little bit of that childhood dream by attending the local Vancouver Circus School! We had our run at flying on the trapeze, swinging in acrobatic silks, doing flips on giant trampolines, juggling, spinning plates, etc.
And let me preface, It IS Much Harder Than It Looks!!! The people who perform in all those Cir-de-Sole type Shows are ridiculously strong and full of endurance! After only about an hour, we were exhausted! The only one who refused to quite was the little guy (although he Was tuckered out, he just refused to admit it, *hehe*) but once we go him in the stroller to leave the facilities, he was asleep within minutes.

Jumping on the giant trampolines, Swinging in the Silks that hang from over 50 feet int he air and spinning plates.

More Jumping on the Giant Trampolines, swinging from the trapeze and walking the tightrope.

Happy Victoria Day!

Today is a Canadian holiday to honor Queen Victoria's Birthday. Actually, the holiday celebration was all weekend. There has been a fair with booths and food and fireworks! They also say that the holiday marks the beginning of summer in Canada, however, it does not feel like summer. It has been rainy and wet, reaching a high of about maybe 50 degrees! Yet, the damper in the weather has not kept people from going out and "doing life." :)

Ice Lollipop

When one thinks of Canada, typical thoughts may include Mounty's, Snow Caped Mountains, & possibly Caribou (the 1st Cousin to the Moose ;) However, our experience these last few months has been very different. We encounter more Asian peoples, to the point where entire grocery stores specialize mostly in Asian products and it is hard to find groceries that we are accustom too. Also, the writing is in Chinese Characters, so it is hard to know what it is you are purchasing, if you don't know how to read Cantonese, Mandarin, etc. And the products that do have an english translation, don't always make perfect sense. Same goes for People groups of India. Entire food markets and retail stores carry items that are India specific and again, if you can not read urdu, hindi or punjabi, purchasing products can be quite a task.

Please Lift Up...

Happy Vaisakhi!

The other week we had a great multi-cultural opportunity to attend a Vaisakhi festival. It is an annual Sikh celebration that takes place in India, but with the huge influx of immigrants from India currently residing in Canada, we had the chance to experience the festival here. There was food, children's activities, music, dancing, a parade and to top it all off, everything was FREE! That's right, the whole celebration is free to everyone! So to give you an idea, we would be walking the parade route before it started and people would hand you juice, tea, pizza, samosa's, cotton candy, balloons, etc.

Enjoying the free meals

Super excited about Vaisakhi!

Also, as we were walking the parade route, we encountered a lot of individuals speaking Pujabi and Hindi, but very few English speakers. It  did not feel like North America, but rather closer to the environment of that which we will be surrounded by in only a few short months.

Please be lifting up our people: ask that their hearts will be open to recieving the Good News.
